Com Lam (Bamboo tube rice)


Traditionally, Com Lam is the most common take – way in Muong community. Travellers expect to try this wonderful food as well as getting to know how to make them . Let’s try it out.

To begin the process, the Muong soak sticky rice in water overnight, then put the rice into a bamboo tube with enough water and cover the tube with a banana leave before baking it.Then, it takes time to see your bamboo – tube rice is well – cooked .

This special dish is to carry out when receiving farm work or to look for vegetables in the forest, especially, in order to save time when the owner is busy. Its taste becomes amazing ; a combination of bamboo, rice, water and more; quite easy to make this dish. Therefore, its popularity get extended, more famous for Muong ethnic group or travellers.

When tasting it, the local person split the bamboo tubes in to four pieces to demonstrate onto a plate. Using hands to pick one piece which is as small as a sausage to dip in to a well - cooked blend that includes of  pounded peanuts, se same and sea salts( muối vừng) then it is one the common methods to contemplate this rural dish when hang out with family, co – workers and friends or in a  local luxury restaurant.

Goumets consider this delicacy ( Com Lam) plays a significant role in the kingdom of streetfood in Vietnam. This dish can be a rural food, a little gift to treat friends, neighbors or relatives and it soon becomes an extraodinary food in the Northside of Vietnam. Muong people are so proud of this dish because it stands for local culture
